It’s hard to believe but folks still ask actress Linda Blair if she can spin her head around.
There are still some individuals who believe the film had been cursed. It has been recorded on video that there were several strange and weird incidences. Actor Ellen Burstyn indicated some rumors to be true in her 2006 autobiography ‘Lessons in Becoming Myself’. The interior sets of the MacNeil residence, except for Regan’s bedroom, were destroyed by a studio fire and had to be rebuilt. The director William Friedkin said that a priest was brought in several occasions to bless the set.
The author of the Exorcist book William Peter Blatty, after the troubles experienced in the New York production, asked Fr. King, to bless the Washington crew on its initial day of filming, at the foot of Lauinger Library’s steps to 37th Street (not the “Exorcist Steps“).
The incident was recounted in Fr. King’s 2009 Washington Post obituary. Some other problems include Linda Blair’s harness breaking when she is thrashing around on the bed, causing the celebrity to become hurt. Burstyn also stated she was hurt slightly when Regan tossed her across the room. Finally, the actor Jack MacGowran (Burke Dennings) died of the flu in the course of filming to make matters even worse.
There is a delicate balance to maintain being scary on Halloween. Your scary Halloween props need to be imaginative, of course. Anything too predictable, and it’s going to be ho-hum and not scary. Try something too imaginative an elaborate though, and people are going to be wondering more about how you could afford to spend all this time on it than about getting scared.
